The furlough – a week in Bali
One of our own Dejan Savi walks you through his travel itinerary and favourite Balinese treats.
Bali, it continues to be one of the go-to of both domestic and international gadabout – almost an escape from the buzzing capital of Jakarta. After a busy first half of the year, I try to take some time to escape the madness and take a breather. That means, for me, venturing east over the Java island to the island of the gods and decided to stay at Canggu & Ubud this time around, as what most would.

Lunch
Mimpi at Canggu
Jl. Pantai Batu Mejan No. 67H
First things first, I was very keen to see some paddyfields as soon as I reached – not many better place than the industrialist-themed Mimpi at Canggu. It’s got a great view overlooking a paddyfield. The restaurant is part of the Munduk Moding plantation resort and they serve fresh and locally produced ingredients in all the dishes plus, the perfect view of the sunset by the infinity pool? What could be better?
Dinner
Bottega Italiana Rosmarina
Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong No. 77
For dinner, I opted for the beautifully designed Rosmarina of Bottega Italiana in Canggu. Fresh homemade pasta, pizza, and great wine selection. Bottega Italiana also stands as a boutique gourmet marketplace for you to purchase homemade products to take home – all made in house.
Coffee
Montana Cafe
Jl. Penelokan No.889
What better way to start the day than a breakfast overlooking the ever so graceful mount Agung? This cafe has it all, pancakes, great specialty coffee and fresh beverages. The journey up there is worth an early start, lakes and mountains may not be what Bali’s Island life is all about, but maybe it should be?
